Privacy policy
Benome is a notes app that keeps what you write on your own computer. This page says exactly what it stores, where, and the few moments anything leaves your device.
The short version
- Your notes stay on your device. There is no Benome server, and nothing you write is uploaded.
- The app has no account, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking.
- Dictation in the Windows app is heard on your computer. Your voice is never recorded to disk or sent anywhere.
- The only download the app makes is a speech model, once, and only after you agree to it.
- If you email us, we see your address and your message, and use them only to reply.
Who we are
Benome is made by klibia, an independent developer. This policy covers the Benome app for Windows and this website. For anything about your privacy, write to support@benome.app.
Your notes
Notes, folders, images you add and your settings are kept in a database
on your computer, in the .benome folder of your Windows user
profile (%USERPROFILE%\.benome). They are never sent to us
or to anyone else.
Benome also keeps a copy of your notes as plain files, in
Documents\Benome or a folder you choose. If that folder is
synced by a service such as OneDrive or Dropbox, that service carries the
copy under its own terms; Benome itself uploads nothing.
The app creates one random identifier for your installation, used only to label which device last changed a note. It stays on your computer and is never transmitted.
Microphone and dictation
Benome uses the microphone only while you are dictating, after you press the microphone button. Speech is turned into text by a speech model running on your own computer. The audio is held in memory only for as long as it takes to transcribe, then discarded. It is never written to disk and never sent anywhere. Only the resulting text is placed in your note.
The first time you dictate, Benome asks whether to download the speech model (about 190 MB). If you agree, it is downloaded once from Hugging Face, a public host for such models, and checked for integrity before use. Like any download, that request shows the host your IP address and the time of the request; nothing about you or your notes is sent with it.
You can turn off microphone access for Benome at any time in Windows Settings, under Privacy & security → Microphone.
Features shown as previews
Ask your notes and Sync appear in this version as previews. Ask replies from a script built into the app, on your device; no note text is sent anywhere. Sync shows invented devices and connects nothing. If either becomes a working feature that needs to send data off your device, this policy will be updated first, and the app will ask before anything is sent.
What we do not do
- We do not collect analytics, usage statistics or crash reports from the app.
- We do not show ads, and we do not use advertising or tracking identifiers.
- We do not sell, rent or share personal information.
- We do not set cookies, in the app or on this website.
Microsoft Store and Windows
When you get Benome from Microsoft Store, the download, installation and any purchase are handled by Microsoft under the Microsoft Privacy Statement. Depending on your Windows diagnostic settings, Windows may report app crashes to Microsoft, and Microsoft may show developers aggregated reports. Benome adds no reporting of its own.
This website
benome.app is a set of static pages served by Cloudflare. The pages contain no scripts, no analytics or tracking code, and set no cookies.
Cloudflare, which delivers and protects the site, processes technical data about each request, such as your IP address. It keeps aggregated traffic statistics that the developer can see in its dashboard — for example, the number of requests and the countries they come from — and it may receive a short report from your browser if a page fails to load. This is governed by Cloudflare's own privacy policy.
When you contact us
Email to support@benome.app is forwarded by Cloudflare Email Routing to the developer's personal mailbox. We see your email address and whatever you choose to write, and use them only to answer you. We keep the conversation for as long as it is useful for helping you, and delete it on request.
Children
Benome is not directed at children under 13. Because the app collects no personal information, it collects none from children either.
Your choices and rights
Your notes are yours and are under your control on your device. To
remove them completely, delete the .benome folder in your
user profile and the folder holding your copy; uninstalling Benome
leaves them in place so a reinstall finds them.
The only personal information we may hold is the email you sent us. Depending on where you live, including under the GDPR, you may have the right to access, correct or delete it, and to object to its use. Write to support@benome.app and we will respond within 30 days. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.
Changes to this policy
If what Benome does with data changes, this page will change first, with a new effective date at the top. Earlier versions are available on request.
